This digital code reader is a diagnostic tool that is specially designed to work with your vehicle's test connector to communicate with MCU and EEC-IV computers. It uses electronics designed to retrieve engine and transmission diagnostic trouble codes from the vehicle's computer but does not generate codes. The product, in my limited use of it, works great. No more need to count "flashes" of the ck engine light to see what the code is and wondering if you missed a flash or counted one too many.
I use this product with my 1992 Ford E-150 wheelchair van. With the cost of buying a new van and having it converted, unless this van bites the dust, its gonna be in use for a very long time. My auto mechanic loves it, as most smaller shops only worry about OBDII scanners now.
